First Time Out
The spring chicks had their first excursion out of the pen this evening. In the past, my chicks started free ranging about the time they started laying, but these chicks are huge. The Australorps are already larger than my full grown hens. The other chickens accepted them pretty well. The dominate hen tried to intimidate them, and the roosters definitely knew that there were new girls around, so they will need some supervision until they are a little older. They went back to their pen at bedtime without any help, so I guess they can be called pullets and cockerels now. Chicks grow up so fast.
