Not The Brightest Hen In The Flock

I went out to check on the chicks this morning and H,I,M, had the chicks out of the nest and running around in the pen.  I tried to put them back in the nest, and mom was not happy.  She ended up keeping them out in the open all day, even during an afternoon thunderstorm.  H.I.M. spent the day lying next to the feed bowl all day snacking.  She lost a lot of weight when she was on the eggs, but she is making up for lost time.  I don't know why she would create work for herself by taking the chicks out of the nest, unless she was really hungry and did not like the little feeder in the nest area.

There are a total of 4 chicks.  Two died during hatching.
