Buff Orpingtons
I have to admit I love Buff Orpingtons. Not because they are good eats. Not because they lay big brown eggs. No, I love Buff Orpingtons because they look pretty foraging on grass. They are my lawn jewelry.
I had several Buffs last spring and the male grew into a nice big rooster, but the females were tiny. So this year I set out to find some good females. Little did I know how difficult it would be. Even though they are one of the most popular breeds in the U.S., no one around here seemed to be selling them this spring. This week I finally found some 5 month old pullets. I don't know yet how they will turn out, but at least my poor old rooster will get a shot at some girls.
