Shelter

We have been having some huge thunderstorms lately.  In the past the broody hen has always sheltered her chicks under her wings.  Today I heard the chick right under the living room window as the thunderstorms rolled in.  It was crying, trying to get under mom's wings, but she would not allow it.  She had shown the chick how to find shelter under the eaves of the house in the storm.  I think she will soon let the chick make it on its own.  Like all young who must leave the nest, I am sure it will be very stressful for the chick, but the chick has had a great teacher.

Poor baby chick! But I'm glad to know you were also keeping an eye on it, too.

The broody does a much better job than I do. :-)
